A Successful Match + a Successful Spaghetti Dinner next Thursday = Moving the Depot!

The $10,000 challenge match has been met! Save the Northfield Depot is very grateful for the support and generosity of the many donors and Dante Stephensen, the Carleton alum and train enthusiast from Atlanta who offered the challenge match.

This successful match, when combined with a potentially successful upcoming fundraising event sponsored by the Northfield Eagles, will bring the project very close to assuring a fall move of the depot.

The Eagles fundraiser spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held at the Northfield Eagles Club (304 Water Street) on Thursday, April 30, from 5-8 p.m. All proceeds will go to Save the Northfield Depot. Supporters of this fundraising event can:

  • Purchase tickets ($8 each) in advance, at the door of the Eagles Club on the April 30, or at the Rob Martin Insurance Agency office. Checks should be made out to the Northfield Eagles Club, and/or
  • Donate items for the silent auction – Baskets of items with a theme are often successful (such as wine, chocolate, car care, grilling items, snacks). Larger items can be dropped off at Eagles Club between 3 and 10 p.m. (except Mondays, when they close at 7 p.m.), but please call them first at 507-645-5316 and ask for Galen.

The challenge match has pushed the total raised to $218,000 and reduced the funding gap to only $10,000 before the depot can be moved—anticipated for this fall. Save the Northfield Depot is making plans to move given this successful match and the prospects for the Eagles fundraiser.

While the total depot move and repair budget is $293,550, the depot can be moved when funds reach $228,550 which will cover the depot repair, new foundation with basement, landscaping, and the move. An additional $65,000 will be needed for interior renovation; those repairs can only be completed once the depot is on the new site.
