The design and build committee’s goal is to secure, preserve, adapt for new uses, and restore the depot. Additional features in the 1917 Plan (pavilion and baggage house) will be added, and the depot will serve as a visitors’ attraction and a gathering place for the community. Tasks include the following:
- negotiate with the Canadian Pacific Railroad via the City of Northfield
- negotiate legal arrangements
- coordinate depot asbestos (and lead paint) abatement
- coordinate preliminary design and engineering
- separate depot from freight-house
- coordinate arrangements to move depot
- manage design of exterior preservation
- rehabilitate basic interior for initial use(s)
- design interior remodeling
- design new additions (office area, pavilion, ‘baggage’ structure or new use)
Work Crew Tasks
- salvage doors, wood or metal details, and brick
- demolish freight house
- coordinate new site foundation work
- repair and preserve depot exterior
- develop site parking landscaping
- rehabilitate interior for basic reuse(s)
- replicate exterior ironwork
- remodel interior for mix of uses
- construct additions for added space, open pavilion and baggage house
